Get Out the Vote (GOTV) is a campaign headed by students with the aid of the University of Miami’s administration to reach out to the student population to encourage them to get involved in the political process.
In 2008, 44% of teens aged 18-20 reported voting at the polls; these numbers are the highest for this age group since 1972 when over 50% voted! In the upcoming 2012 Presidential election,Get Out The Vote seeks to add to these turn outs by empowering students to voice their chief concerns to the government in the form of voting. The issues surrounding this upcoming election are monumental, and have the ability to affect your lives for years to come! So why not give the government your input and voice your choices on election day!
So have you registered to vote yet? If not, please do so at a residential college, the University Center, or at the University Village before October 9th for the National Elections. For students in the residential colleges and apartment area, your polling area will be the nearby Bank United Center, formerly the Convocation Center. University Village and Fraternity Row residents will vote at St. Augustine Church. Students living outside of UM should refer to their voter registration card for their designated precinct.
