Black Awareness Month 2010: Wake Up
This February, United Black Students, partnered with the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, presents “Wake Up”. Black Awareness Month 2010 is bringing back the annual events that University of Miami students know and love, along with new events and forum topics that are sure to leave students wide awake. Black Awareness Month, commonly referred to as BAM by students, is the University’s version of Black History Month, which was created as “Negro History Week” in 1926. The creator, Carter G. Woodson, chose February to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln, two crucial contributors in the progression of Black people in America.
